Purpose:
To establish Reynolds Community College (Reynolds) as an equal opportunity employer that promotes a work environment where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and to ensure that employment decisions are based on merit, qualifications, and abilities. The procedures for implementation of this policy are provided below.
-
Procedure and/or Process Definitions:
Equal employment opportunity (EEO): the college’s adherence to the federally mandated policy on nondiscrimination regarding matters of recruitment, employment, personnel actions and employee benefits, or in connection with other job-related programs or activities.
EEO Officer: The associate vice president of human resources is responsible for overseeing the college’s compliance with the EEO policy and addressing any allegations of discrimination.
Related Medical Conditions due to Pregnancy and Childbirth: Any related medical condition including lactation (defined as a condition that may result in the feeding of a child directly from the breast or the expressing of milk from the breast).
Bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ): As an exception to the restrictions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 regarding discrimination on the basis of sex, religion, and national origin that, under certain conditions, an employer may legitimately require an individual of a specific sex, national origin or religious affiliation to staff a certain job.
Disability: An individual who (1) has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of his or her major life activities, (2) has a record of such an impairment, or (3) is regarded as having such an impairment.
-
Procedures:
-
Salary Transactions and Compliance: The college will comply with the Cardinal guidelines set forth by the Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) to ensure transparency and equity in salary decisions. All salary transactions will be entered into Cardinal for review, and DHRM will monitor compliance on an annual basis.
-
Complaint Resolution: Any employee or applicant who believes they have experienced discrimination or been subjected to unlawful employment practices may file a complaint with the EEO Officer. The college will promptly investigate any complaints and take appropriate corrective actions where necessary.
-
Training: The college will provide training to employees, particularly managers and supervisors, to ensure awareness of nondiscrimination practices and legal requirements. This training will focus on maintaining a workplace free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
